first impression: concept: awesome.

second impression (at 6/10): very clever. so far you haven't gone beyond implications, biconditionals (iff) and conjunctions/disjunctions. going much beyond that would be pretty far beyond the capability of your average gamer and i assume you want people to at least try to finish this and in a reasonable % of cases, succeed, so that was wise on your part.

third impression (at 9/10): still fun. i wasn't sure what a red herring was, but i still completed the puzzle. i think maybe you should have defined what a red herring was. it was obvious to me from the context, but it may not be to some others and that may stop them from completing the game.

fourth impression (at 10/10): i've never seen the underscores under the and/or symbols before. it wasn't necessary. was it just to make things look more complicated than they really were? 10/10 was one of the easiest puzzles in the game.

final impression: wasn't too pleased with the ending.

was still fun and a definite 5/5

Yeah, a lot of people don't like the ending. I like some of the thematic stuff - the mechnical puzzle at the end, the integration (or lack thereof) between emotion and reason, and the character's ambivalence to death. But it could have been better, I'm sure.

i like the level variety.

didn't like the upgrades though. it's more fun to start with some skill set and expand on it (as you did) and buff up the original stuff and base stuff as well.

I experienced no lag from the NG medal popup. So please do not remove that from future projects.

More Games link didn't work.

Game over without continues is an outdated game mechanic. It has nothing to do with retro. It's just bad game design.

Music and graphics were excellent but I would have liked to see variety in the color schemes and more sound tracks.

I got to level 8 and died. If there was more variety after that, it came a bit too late for me.

unlimitary responds:

Thanks! I didn't find any sense in adding casual leveling to this game - new levels don't introduce new gameplay elements, so this is all about scoring. Honestly speaking, levels was added in the latest build of the project, it was only one single endless level before.

Anyway, I will take into account your notes if there will be a sequel.

no soundtrack: -1 star
jumping was too fast: -1 star
forced to move hand from keyboard to mouse in between levels: -1 star
no sound effects for jumping/landing/etc.: -1 star

if this had a sound track and lacked the annoying mechanic of not letting you see your sprite when he was off the top of the view field, then it would be a five.

and five stars would have reigned down from the emotional heavens to grace you with their love.

fun but i wish it was more persistent with upgrades. launch game style. (not launching, but the same upgrading + repeated increasingly successful attempts mechanic.

also i think you're a bit underrated due to hitting a nerve with most of newgrounds. most of NG is probably morbidly obese.

i try to write these reviews while playing the game so that i can address all key points. if i have a problem with a game it's usually inexcusable. in other words, it's something that anyone of moderate level of intelligence should have noticed and squashed after even the most modest amount of playtesting. that said, here is the first and most obscene issue: (this tells me you did zero playtesting and don't care about your players whatsoever, therefore you are incredibly selfish)

fast forward isn't NEARLY fast enough.
it really isn't anywhere near fast enough. fast forward isn't even fast enough to be a legitimate "normal" speed.
on some levels where you want to test placement of springs, it's excruciatingly slow.

i really didn't like the music. it was abrasive and loud and didn't match the theme even remotely. not even in a funny way.

keys made no sense. they were just there. they didn't do anything or unlock anything. pretty lame.

no sound effects worth mentioning.

it seems that decent art or animation is all it takes to get a good rating these days.

well, it earns you 0 stars from me.

lol screw the spikes level. i'm an awesome platformer but that level was just a pain in the ass. i quit.

MintPaw responds:

At only the first spike level. D:

ignore all the reviews about the controls. they were fine. i smashed through all levels in all four difficulties with ease.

my only complaint would be the difficulty. but the excellent ambient audio made up for that. putting you back at five stars.

HybridMind responds:

Thanks for playing! It is good to hear you were able to get through the game. It will always be the case that some players struggle with controls while others do not. The best I could do was have about 200 people play test this game during development and I was able to tune the controls as much as I could so that the majority of the players were able to have a decent time.

Glad you also liked my ambient audio!

little more explanation would be nice. the ending was abrupt and lame. just coming up with some obscure story on your own then putting bits and pieces of it into your production to give the illusion of mystery is not the way to write a compelling story.
