When waves start, even if I have an engine, I can't move around. I have to shoot or mash a few keys first then I can move. And in those initial seconds I might take some bad damage.

Also I don't see anything showing my money.... so I just buy modules until suddenly I can't. Which is weird. Why not show the money?

Also the art for the modules is weird. It should have transparent backgrounds instead of just white tiles.

Also the explosion sound is way too loud compared to the rest of the game's noises.

Finally, since this game is taken from Upgrade Complete's ship upgrading system, it would be nice if you'd mention it in the Author comments and in the game. (both not just one or the other)

After I ran through the woods.. for what I guess was supposed to be the opening credits, I get to a castle or something with numbered areas. I click all over it. It zooms in on areas, zooms out, pans around. It is completely unclear how to start a level or which level to start or how to do anything.

You should rethink this.

Big time.

sharpnova sent me the following message, admitting she was too quick to judge and nicely explained herself.

"I gave this game a zero hastily. Once I figured everything out it was great. I would give it a 4.5/5. If you want to reply to my review, please include this message."

Thank you for your input, there is a message on the bottom that says you need to press the jump button to continue and it shows the current mapping for the jump button, both keyboard and game-pad.
Other than that, enter, esc, or start button on the game-pad also starts the game, the levels are not select-able, the map is just to show progress and stats.

Also I now added a touch based start button for mouse input, I think that should cover all bases.

You have a very distinct art style. I always know it's your game before I look at the author.

Guy-Unger responds:

I was just thinking, when AI becomes smarter than humans and we'd give it the task to find new scientific knowledge. Do you think it would benefit more from the tons of scientific papers we published, or it's ability to simulate experiments and gather that knowledge by it's own?

you have to click most things a dozen times to get them to work. you will do things over and over in the exact same way and finally they will function.

i just...

no.

the GRAPHICS were ice until the paper came up with the text about the guitar and it was just regular text overlaid on the game graphics. wow that looked bad.

we were supposed to do something with the staticy radio i guess? but why did you make it so cacophonous. not worth the trouble because it was so painful and disgusting to the ears.

At some point I hit some key which paused the game and was never able to find a way to unpause it.

SinclairStrange responds:

enter.

You screwed up and bound smithing to the same key as striking. So even when you're at that strange structure at the start and center of the map which I assume is some kid of forge, J does nothing but striking.

This is absolutely a zero and I can't believe you'd submit this game with such a ridiculous bug.

Niborious7 responds:

J does both striking and Smithing. You have to hit stuff together to make new weapons. At the beginning you have to hit the rocks together to sharpen them, and then pick up the sharpened rock.

I think what the issue here is that I changed the game so that the new round doesn't start until you pick up the next weapon, so if you don't know to pick up a sharpened rock, nothing ever happens. I suppose I need to have a better way to introduce the player to the mechanics of the game.

To those who found this review helpful. The game does in fact work, and this is not a bug. It just doesn't have any tutorial elements, and you have to figure out what to do.

as usual, the true NG classics have nothing to do with cringe pico/madness/etc. circlejerking.

this should be remastered for modern times. (remade really)

I went through all that just for her to reject it on the basis of tomatoes.

Is this really the message you're trying to send to young kids?

OrangePylon responds:

Tomatoes are dogshit, and it's time for society to wake up to that.

Took me a minute to realize to start the fire with the glass. Other than that it was super easy.

Short and fun

This is a nice game. But it was submitted here years ago.
