Game froze on the third puzzle.

It got up to the green ["ABJURER" as well.]

Unless I'm missing something, I can't type, hit Z, or enter.

I was trying to skip through the text because I just wanted to solve puzzles.. so maybe I skipped through too fast?

Could you please include some instructions to tell us the rate we're allowed to skip through the text?

LucidShadowDreamer responds:

Ahh, well. I'll update my response. Seems like you're indeed not the only person experiencing issues at that spot. I went back and changed the value of one line, hopefully that'll fix the problem. Still, I don't think that the issue was huge enough to merit such a reaction :p

After I ran through the woods.. for what I guess was supposed to be the opening credits, I get to a castle or something with numbered areas. I click all over it. It zooms in on areas, zooms out, pans around. It is completely unclear how to start a level or which level to start or how to do anything.

You should rethink this.

Big time.

HeadbanGames responds:

sharpnova sent me the following message, admitting she was too quick to judge and nicely explained herself.

"I gave this game a zero hastily. Once I figured everything out it was great. I would give it a 4.5/5. If you want to reply to my review, please include this message."

Thank you for your input, there is a message on the bottom that says you need to press the jump button to continue and it shows the current mapping for the jump button, both keyboard and game-pad.
Other than that, enter, esc, or start button on the game-pad also starts the game, the levels are not select-able, the map is just to show progress and stats.

Also I now added a touch based start button for mouse input, I think that should cover all bases.

You have a very distinct art style. I always know it's your game before I look at the author.

Guy-Unger responds:

I was just thinking, when AI becomes smarter than humans and we'd give it the task to find new scientific knowledge. Do you think it would benefit more from the tons of scientific papers we published, or it's ability to simulate experiments and gather that knowledge by it's own?

At some point I hit some key which paused the game and was never able to find a way to unpause it.

SinclairStrange responds:

enter.

You screwed up and bound smithing to the same key as striking. So even when you're at that strange structure at the start and center of the map which I assume is some kid of forge, J does nothing but striking.

This is absolutely a zero and I can't believe you'd submit this game with such a ridiculous bug.

Niborious7 responds:

J does both striking and Smithing. You have to hit stuff together to make new weapons. At the beginning you have to hit the rocks together to sharpen them, and then pick up the sharpened rock.

I think what the issue here is that I changed the game so that the new round doesn't start until you pick up the next weapon, so if you don't know to pick up a sharpened rock, nothing ever happens. I suppose I need to have a better way to introduce the player to the mechanics of the game.

To those who found this review helpful. The game does in fact work, and this is not a bug. It just doesn't have any tutorial elements, and you have to figure out what to do.

I went through all that just for her to reject it on the basis of tomatoes.

Is this really the message you're trying to send to young kids?

OrangePylon responds:

Tomatoes are dogshit, and it's time for society to wake up to that.

no sound. pixel art is too minimal. causes the game to be devoid of any character.

levels aren't interesting. mechanic isn't interesting... levels could at least be procedural

if not procedural then it makes no sense to start the game over from scratch when you die

SiredSpace responds:

No sound? That's strange, there should be sound [ although, it's very minimal ].
Thanks for the honest feedback! :)

How do you play this? I'm clicking "SELECT" on the Local Save option and nothing is happening. I tried it on Online Save and it was the same there.

Is it really that hard to notice bugs like these?

ragevb responds:

Thanks for the comment. I encountered that issue only once, and I wasn't sure if I fixed it or not. I'll try to address it in the next update. In the meantime you can try refreshing the page and everything should be fine.
Cheers

I have a good pc but the lag on this was very annoying. It mostly only occurs at the start/finish of levels and when you pick up powerups.

Still one of the best metroidvania flash games ever.

The-EXP responds:

Thanks :) Yeah this one is a bit laggy because I tried to do everything on a strict minute timer. I should have just let the lag slow things down instead of trying to be clever about it. Oh well, live and learn :) Thanks for playing :)

Ok first of all.

Why are you not mentioning Crystal Quest?

This is a clone of that game. And you gave NO credit here. Not even a mention. Shameful.

The interface was so bad. You have to click to scroll down in the upgrade descriptions.. in a TINY bar and it drags down so fast you can't even read it.

You have to wait for mouse button to RELEASE before your projectiles fire. This feels completely wrong. If you tested that, you'd have realized that.

No sound.

What's sad is crystal quest was from like 20 years ago and it was immensely better in every possible way.

AFeastIsAFeast responds:

Edited the description to mention what I based this on. Crystal Quest was my favorite game for a long time. I'll probably be remaking this game to be more diverse and loyal to the original.

Made this in like three days a year or so ago.
